About NightLight Atlanta
Atlanta’s sports venues and convention centers, combined with the world’s busiest passenger airport and booming adult entertainment industry, facilitate an environment conducive for sex tourism and trafficking. Approximately 495 underaged girls are commercially sexually exploited per month in Georgia. A recent study estimated that 7,200 men in the Metro Atlanta area purchase sex from minor girls every month (‘A Future, Not A Past,’ a project of the Juvenile Justice Fund, February 2010).
NightLight Atlanta is a faith-based, grassroots movement that addresses the complex issues of commercial sexual exploitation through prevention, intervention, restoration, and education. NightLight Atlanta seeks to mobilize the Body of Christ to loose the chains of injustice, while partnering with local law enforcement and service providers to set the captives free.
NightLight Atlanta’s Prevention Program has launched in two locations since 2008 and now serves over 250 at-risk children and teenagers. NightLight Atlanta will launch a third program in 2012.
Every week, the NightLight Atlanta Outreach Team builds relationships with individuals who are working in strip clubs, brothels, and hotels; individuals soliciting on the street; individuals who are pimping; and individuals who are buying sex. The NightLight Atlanta Outreach Team ministers to an average of over 500 women in the sex industry every year. (Note: This number does not include men.)
NightLight Atlanta continues to assist individuals who desire to leave the sex industry in finding work outside of the industry. The ministry regularly partners individuals in the sex industry with mentors. Greater still, many have encountered God for the first time, or for the first time in a while; and we celebrated 20 baptisms in 2011.
Members of NightLight Atlanta’s team travel to speak at various events to raise awareness about the issue of commercial sexual exploitation and decrease demand.
